The Offshore Stabilization Mount 5000 is the most powerful gyro-based stabilization platform ever developed by SOMAG and aims to stabilize heavy single- or multi-sensor payloads in marine settings.
Advantages
- Highest payload stabilization of marine Gyro Stabilization Mount series
- Two stabilization range configurations available for best stabilization results tailored to individual application
- Large mounting space for single- and multi-sensor payloads
Hydraulic gimbal system for heavy sensor payloads
The OSM 5000 addresses the challenges of data acquisition in the most demanding maritime environments. The weatherproof design (IP class 67) protects the Mount from environmental influences such as salt- and splash water, enabling flexible use in surveillance and situational awareness tasks above deck in a variety of naval and marine applications as well as on floating platforms for wind lidar stabilization or as an stabilized landing platform for UAVs. The gyro stabilizer is equipped with high-precision built-in sensors to detect movements and automatically compensate them to keep the payload in a leveled position for razor-sharp imagery and comprehensive situational awareness. The OSM 5000 is the most powerful gyro-based stabilization platform ever developed by SOMAG as it ensures precise leveling of heavy sensor payloads up to 300 kg (660 lbs) with an accuracy of ≤0.3°.
Gyro Stabilization for Imaging Sensors, Radars, Antennas and other payloads
With a mounting space of Ø600 mm the stabilization platform offers sufficient space for a wide range of large naval sensor systems deployed on frigates and other large ships. For deployment on ships, the OSM 5000 configuration with asymmetrical stabilization range is particularly suitable, since ships are longer than they are wider and movements in the roll axis present greater challenges than in the pitch axis. With its symmetrical stabilization range, the Gyro Stabilization Mount compensates movements in roll and pitch up to ≤± 14.1°. This configuration is particularly interesting for customers who want to install their sensor on a floating support, since the general motion stimulation is rather symmetrical.
The OSM 5000 features advanced control algorithms, enhanced diagnosis possibilities and an Ethernet communication interface that allows integration into existing networks as well as control and monitoring of multiple Gyro Mounts within a network.

Preliminary data, subject to change 1 Vehicle motion ≤± 12° / 12°/s / 10°/s2 – small periodical lateral accelerations (≤ 0.5 g) acceptable, constant lateral accelerations for more than 1 minute resulting from vehicle’s turning maneuvers are compensated by internal or external GPS input. No GPS input could reduce the performance of the Mount during turning maneuvers. 2 Possible payload weight depends on lateral acceleration and CoG of payload / shown data is based on 0.5 g lateral acceleration and a CoG payload offset to the Mount surface of: 370 mm (14.6 in) | 450 mm (17.7 in) | 550 mm (21.7 in) 3 Maximum duration 90 s at 55 °C surrounding temperature / longer if temperature inside the unit is < 55 °C 4 Horizontal payload CoG offsets are not considered; without wind force and other possible external forces |
