The Nautical Stabilization Mount 500 provides effective gyro stabilization for electro-optical reconnaissance and surveillance sensor systems to improve situational awareness in rough sea conditions.
Advantages
- Designed for surveillance sensor stabilization on medium to large maritime vessels
- Medium-sized Marine Gyro Mount between smaller RSM 50 and larger OSM 5000
- Ethernet interface for integration in ship’s infrastructure
Reliable Gyro Stabilization for surveillance sensors in all weather and water conditions
The NSM 500 was primarily designed for the stabilization of eletrco-optical reconnaissance and surveillance sensor systems on medium (starting from 1.0 kt onwards) to large maritime vessels. Un-stabilized systems follow the movement of the water caused by the swell which adversely affects the detection and threat-tracking capabilities of the sensor. The two-axis gimbal ensures a stabilized field of view and high-resolution images by compensating the roll and pitch movements of the vessel. This allows EO/IR systems to scan their environment without interference even in extreme sea conditions, in order to best detect, track and classify air and surface threats. The NSM 500 is the perfect gimbal for IRST (infra-red search and track) and other surveillance systems to ensure 360° protection for surface vessels of naval forces.
Highest stabilization range for the best gyro gimbal performance on the market
The NSM 500 is IP 67 compliant and made to perform in very rough sea conditions, up to sea state 6 and beyond. To achieve this performance, the NSM 500 features a peak torque of 250 Nm to withstand even 1.5 G lateral acceleration*. Choosing an NSM 500 means not only opting for an extremely powerful mount, but also one with a uniquely large stabilization range. The NSM 500 compensates for movements in roll and pitch up to ≤±20°. Even installation at high altitudes, such as on 30-meter-high masts, does not affect its performance. For this application SOMAG provides a power cable with a length up to 30 m.
*The possible payload to be stabilized is related to the center of gravity of the payload as well as the lateral accelerations the Gyro Mount and payload have to withstand.
Feed more in, get more out
The NSM 500 is designed for 24/7 operation and offers unsurpassed stabilization accuracy of ≤0.3° rms. The NSM 500 is equipped with an Ethernet port to allow integration of the Gyro Mount into the ship’s infrastructure. The gimbal works automatically and independently due to its internal gyros. It can also process external ship data (NMEA frames) or IMU data, which improves the residual deviation performance for long term applications.
